Citations is the revolutionary citation tool included in Papers.You can search and cite literature directly from your Paperslibrary when writing. Using the Citations tool in Papers 3 for Mac,you can enter a citation in almost any application.

The first step to using Citations, is making sure it is turnedon from the Papers > Preferences > Citations menu. Thedefault keyboard shortcut (on Papers for Mac) to view the citationstool is ctrl + ctrl. You can also customise the keyboard shortcutby manually entering a shortcut in the bar below the ctrl + ctrloption.
How to insertcitations into your documents

- Whenever you are ready to insert a citation into yourmanuscript, just use the ctrl + ctrl keyboard shortcut.
- This opens citations:
- Start searching your Papers library by entering a keyword, partof a title, or the name of the author for the paper you want tocite. If you have found the correct paper, click on it to selectit. If multiple search results are returned for your searchparameters, select among the results which article you want tocite, or search again.
*To preview an article before entering the citation, you canselect 'QuickLook' and hit Enter.

- To insert the citation, click on 'Insert citation'.
- Once you click on 'Insert citation', you are taken back to yourmanuscript where now your citation has been added:
- If you are citing more than one article at once, select yourfirst article. Then continue typing in the search box to find yoursecond article. The first citation is saved by PapersCitations:
- When you select your second citation, you can either keepadding more citations or click on 'Insert Citation' to add allreferences. As you can see, both articles selected to be cited atonce appear in the citations window:
Creating your bibliography
When you are finished writing your manuscript, you are now readyto insert your reference list. All papers cited using PapersCitations will be included in your bibliography, which is formattedaccording to the style you select(ed).
- Use the ctrl + ctrl command again to open citations.
- Select 'Format Manuscript' and hit Enter. Your manuscript is nowformatted and the bibliography is added where your cursor waslast.
- To change the style, again use the ctrl + ctrl commnd and click'Select Style'. Browse available citation styles or type the nameof the journal in the search box. Keep in mind that not alljournals might be listed, but most journals will say they use aparticular style, e.g. the same style as Nature, or APA. Paperswill only show your (default) favourite citation styles, theremaining 7000+ styles can be accessed by using the searchbox.
Papers revolutionizes how you discover, organize, read, share and cite. The first thing you’ll notice when starting Papers 3 is the new stunning user interface. One of the most important changes in Papers 3 is however almost invisible: how easy it is to sync your library between your computers (Macs or PCs) and your iPad and iPhone. You can access the reading list and shared collections also from a web browser when you don't have access to Papers for Mac.
